War on Drug Abuse: Marwa urges families to acquire drug test kits
The Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has called upon families to obtain drug test kits for domestic use as part of preventive measures against substance abuse among the youth.
During his address at the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Competition in Abuja, Marwa emphasized that early detection is vital in preventing addiction.
"Substance abuse deprives young individuals of the promising future that is rightfully theirs. It is not merely a personal tragedy; it represents a national loss," he stated. "We must stay close to our children, provide them with attention, and never overlook the warning signs."
Marwa praised DEPOWA for utilizing sports as a means of awareness under the theme "Live Free, Stay Clean." He urged educational institutions to establish drug-free clubs, assuring them that the NDLEA is prepared to assist in raising awareness and implementing prevention programs.
In her address, DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, mentioned that the initiative aims to empower secondary school students to lead drug-free lives through engagement, awareness, and positive peer influence.
She highlighted that the four-week program, which will conclude on October 16, 2025, seeks to maintain awareness of substance abuse and its associated dangers, particularly among adolescents who are susceptible to peer pressure and misinformation.
Mrs. Musa expressed gratitude for the support from partners, including the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and commended the NDLEA for its nationwide rehabilitation and awareness initiatives.
