NOC picks June 27 to mark 2026 Olympic Day
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and its Sport-For-All Commission have officially designated Saturday, June 27, 2026, for the nationwide celebration of Olympic Day.
The announcement, made on April 7, 2026, outlines an ambitious plan to build on the record-breaking participation seen in 2025.
Highlights of the 2026 Celebration
Theme & Focus: The campaign is centered on inclusivity and the social joy of movement.
Generational Bridge: NOC President Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel stated that a primary goal this year is to use physical activity to foster connections between younger people and older Nigerians, bridging the generational gap through sport.
Nationwide Scope: Invitation letters have already been dispatched to all states of the federation. State Sports Councils are being urged to begin early preparations to ensure the event reaches "every nook and corner" of the country.Core Activities: The NOC is encouraging Nigerians of all ages to participate in accessible exercises such as jogging, walking, and aerobics to promote both physical fitness and mental well-being.
