Sit-at-home: Anambra begs transporters to resume full operations on Mondays

The government of Anambra State has urged commercial transportation operators throughout the state to assist in its efforts to terminate the sit-at-home order by fully resuming operations on Mondays.

During a one-day training and retraining program for commercial drivers and riders held in Awka on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, highlighted the necessity of transporters operating at full capacity to help end the sit-at-home in the state.

Mefor underscored the vital role that transporters play in revitalizing the state’s economy, particularly on Mondays.

He stated, “The transport sector is essential in reclaiming our Mondays. While traders are adhering to the government’s initiatives, they face challenges with transportation, which impacts their businesses and customers.

“The traders are complying, but they are complaining that the lack of adequate commercial vehicles makes it difficult for them and their customers to operate optimally.

“The civil servants are now working on Mondays, banks are opening, and even schools are functioning. The Main Market is 100 per cent operational on Mondays. The transport sector is the only one slacking.”

The commissioner encouraged transporters to take advantage of this opportunity to back the state government’s initiative and aid in the economic development of the state, emphasizing that this action will not only enhance their livelihoods but also foster a more dynamic and prosperous Anambra as the state reclaims the Mondays.

In her opening remarks, the host of the event and Commissioner for Transport, Patricia Igwebuike, clarified that the purpose of the programme was to inform commercial drivers and riders in the state about fundamental rules and practices that enhance road safety.

The training, organized by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with Rotary International District 9142, sought to provide drivers and riders with the essential skills and knowledge required to effectively navigate the state’s transportation sector.
