From Potter to Caicedo, Chelsea’s spending on Brighton players hit £263m

The fact that Chelsea has reached an agreement to pay up to £60 million for Brighton forward Joao Pedro is not new.

If the transfer goes through, Chelsea would have spent £263 million on Brighton players in just three years.

Remember how Chelsea also signed Graham Potter, the Seagulls' manager at the time, in 2022?

The 23-year-old has signed to a seven-year contract with Chelsea, according to Sky Sports on Monday. He will go from Brazil to the United States for a medical and to play for Enzo Maresca's team at the Club World Cup.

Pedro's transfer coincides with Brighton's sell-on clause and Chelsea's positive relationship with Brighton.

Pedro is regarded by the Blues as a versatile forward who can play both on the front line and as a No. 9.

With Pedro perhaps available to play against Palmeiras on Friday in Philadelphia, with kickoff at 2am UK time in the early hours of Saturday, that means the Brazil international may make his Chelsea debut in the Club World Cup quarterfinals.

The following is a complete list of Brighton players who have joined Chelsea over the past three years, along with their reported transfer fees:

Marc Cucurella 2022 £62 million

Robert Sánchez 2023 £25 million

Moisés Caicedo 2023 £115 million (incl. add-ons)

João Pedro 2025 (reported) ~£30–35 million
