10,000 Lagos residents to benefit from Obasanjo’s birthday healthcare mission
Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, aims to reach at least 10,000 beneficiaries in the suburbs of Lagos as part of the celebrations for his 89th birthday anniversary.
A statement released on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, indicates that this medical outreach is being organized under the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation.
The medical mission in Lagos is scheduled to take place in the Ikorodu and Alimosho local government areas from February 27 to March 4, 2026.
The former President was born on March 5, 1937.
Dr. Olalekan Makinde, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, stated, "In honor of the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Founder of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, we are pleased to announce a significant Lagos Medical Mission aimed at delivering comprehensive, life-altering healthcare services — entirely free of charge to over 10,000 Nigerians.
"This unique medical outreach is organized as a legacy-focused humanitarian initiative to celebrate Chief Obasanjo’s 89th birthday, showcasing his enduring dedication to service, nation-building, and the welfare of the Nigerian populace."
Makinde also mentioned that the outreach will commence on Friday, February 27, at the Ijede LCDA Council Hall in Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, and continue on Saturday, February 28, at the Imota Mini Stadium in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos.
He stated, "From Monday, March 2 to Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the exercise will be relocated to Alade Stadium, Command Road, Agbado/Oke-Odo in Alimosho, Lagos, where beneficiaries will be provided with: complimentary ear care services, including the provision of hearing aids for eligible beneficiaries; complimentary eye care services, which encompass comprehensive screening, prescription glasses, and referrals or sponsorship for eye surgeries; complimentary cardiovascular screenings, blood pressure evaluations, and heart health assessments; preventive medical counseling; complimentary general medical consultations, diagnoses, and treatments; as well as the distribution of essential medications at no charge."
He underscored that through this Lagos medical mission, the foundation continues to reflect Obasanjo’s vision of accessible healthcare and compassionate intervention for underserved communities.
Makinde emphasized, "As we commemorate the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, we pay tribute to his legacy in the most significant manner possible — by serving the populace.
"This medical mission is a present to the nation, particularly for those who may otherwise lack access to quality healthcare."
He clarified, "The outreach is available to senior citizens, children and families, individuals experiencing untreated hearing or vision issues, persons with cardiovascular concerns, as well as low-income and vulnerable residents throughout Lagos State.
“Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as services will be rendered strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.”
