Otti seeks South-East govs collaboration to upgrade Enugu Law School
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has formally called for a collaborative effort among South-East governors to upgrade the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus (Augustine Nnamani Campus), citing the deteriorating state of its infrastructure.
The Governor made this appeal on April 7, 2026, highlighting that the facility serves the entire region and requires collective intervention to restore its standards.
Condition of the Campus: Governor Otti described the facilities at the Enugu campus as "deteriorating" and in need of urgent modernization to remain a world-class center for legal education.
Regional Ownership: Although the Law School is a federal institution, Otti emphasized that its location in the South-East makes it a strategic asset for the zone. He argued that the five states (Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo) should not wait solely for federal funding.
The "Go Together" Philosophy: Referencing his recent calls for regional unity, the Governor noted that while states have different individual priorities, critical regional infrastructure like the Law School should be a shared responsibility.
This move is part of a growing trend of cooperation among South-East leaders in 2026:
Education Reform: In addition to the Law School, Otti has been active in upgrading Abia State University (ABSU), including building new Law and Agriculture faculties.
Economic Hubs: The governors recently discussed connecting the region to a single power grid, leveraging the geometric power capacity in Aba to boost industrialization across all five states.
Security & Infrastructure: The South-East Governors Forum has been increasingly focused on joint intelligence sharing and the "South East Vision 2050" development plan.
The proposal is expected to be a major talking point at the next South-East Governors Forum meeting. While Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has expressed support for regional execution of such projects, a formal funding agreement between the five states has yet to be finalized.
