FRSC secures conviction of 20 motorists over traffic offences in Ogun

No fewer than 20 drivers have been found guilty of various traffic violations by the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The individuals were convicted during the Phase II session of the FRSC Mobile Court, which took place at the Itori Unit Command and was overseen by Chief Magistrate O.T. Odunsaya.

In a statement released on Friday by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Odunsi Afolabi, it was noted that the motorists faced charges for a range of infractions, including overloading and excessive speeding, among other traffic-related violations.

Afolabi revealed that all offenders were convicted by the court, with none being discharged during the proceedings.

He stated, “A total of 20 offenders were arraigned and subsequently convicted. Forty offences were recorded during the exercise, of which 39 resulted in various fines, while none of the offenders received a prison sentence.”

He elaborated that the enforcement operation focused on critical safety violations such as the failure to install speed limit devices, overloading, non-use of seat belts, driver’s licence offences, tyre violations, vehicle licence and number plate irregularities, as well as inadequate vehicle maintenance.

During the court session, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, remarked that the mobile court initiative is part of the command’s ongoing enforcement strategy designed to enhance adherence to traffic regulations.

Fasakin emphasized that this initiative also increases the operational visibility of the corps and acts as a deterrent to reckless driving along major routes in the state.

He praised the orderly conduct of the proceedings and recognized the sufficient security provided by armed personnel throughout the exercise.

The sector commander consequently urged motorists to practice safe driving habits and ensure proper vehicle documentation to avert preventable road accidents, injuries, and fatalities.
He reiterated the corps’ commitment to prosecuting traffic offenders, whose actions endanger the lives of other road users.
